UofSC among in top 50 universities promoting financial literacy – UofSC News & Events

The University of South Carolina ranks among the top 50 universities in the country
for promoting financial literacy to its students, according to a new nationwide survey
by LendEDU.com.

South Carolina’s Student Success Center was recognized for its many opportunities
for students to get consultations, either by appointment or drop in, as well as the
financial literacy workshops it provides. LendEDU also highlighted the emergency loan
program the center makes available.

The rankings examine four criteria: the number of resources available for students,
the number of workshops hosted, access to one-on-one consultations and whether schools
offer incentive programs to students. South Carolina is the only university in the
state to make the list, joining institutions like Duke, Harvard, Stanford and Yale.

“The Money Management Program in the Student Success Center offers one-on-one consultations
for undergraduate students that cover a variety of personal financial topics. Each
consultation is designed to educate the student about different financial concepts
to help empower them with the tools to incorporate good financial practices into their
daily life,” said Dana Talbert, director of the Student Success Center. “Especially
in a time of crisis like the current global pandemic, it is critical that students
learn and incorporate good financial practices into their life. These are essential
not only now, but also beyond their years at UofSC.”
